The Berniere Memorial Police Building is five decades old and the building has aged to the point that costly repairs are needed. Additionally, the Department has doubled in size since the building was constructed in 1965 and we have simply outgrown the interior space . In order to develop a sound course of action, a Building Needs and Feasibility Report along with a Space Needs Assessment were drafted by professionals. These documents will greatly assist in the efforts of addressing the current and future building needs of the North Haven Police Department. Please understand that the included Schematic Designs and any cost estimations are preliminary and subject to change as the process moves forward.
On October 25, 2016, the citizens of the Town of North Haven voted in favor of an 18 million dollar bond package to renovate the police building and replace the aging public safety communication system. The building renovation will include an addition that will provide much needed work space for the uniformed officers and a new prisoner holding facility.
In December 2016, Jacunski Humes Architects, LLC was commissioned to provide the architectural services for this project. Design and Construction Documents are being draft. It is anticipated that construction on the building will commence in the Fall of 2017.
The Public Safety Communications System Project is running parallel with the building project and system design is being finalized.
